Help your students to understand the purpose and importance of the Welcome To Country ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country.
Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country are becoming a common practice at major events and also smaller meetings and gatherings. They are a great way to demonstrate respect and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first Australias and traditional owners of the land.
This resource will help your students understand the difference between the two protocols, how they are conducted and when they are most appropriate. They will also be able to research the traditional owners of their local area.
In this resource you’ll find four activities:
→ Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country Overview
→ A detailed explanation of each protocol and when it should be used
→Acknowledgement of Country in my local area worksheet
→ Fact and Opinion sorting activity
