Charles Sturt is a major figure in Australia’s exploration. He was the first European person to navigate and explore the Murray River. In addition, he led a number of expeditions into the interior of Australia in search of an inland sea. He also had a significant impact on the development and politics of South Australia.
This Charles Sturt Timeline Mapping activity is great fun! It allows students to assemble a double page map of the Murray River system and track Sturt’s expedition down the Murray by sorting events into chronological order. This is an ideal task to do in pairs or could be enlarged on to A3 paper to create a project or display item for your classroom. Everything you need is in this file. An answer key is included to make marking a breeze!
