Australian Curriculum Content Descriptor:
ACHASSK110 – The role that a significant individual or group played in shaping a colony
The story of Ludwig Leichhardt is surrounded by mystery and intrigue. He is one of the most interesting figures in Australia’s exploration and students love to learn about his expedition and disappearance.
This activity is great fun! The first part allows students to conduct their own research to create a profile of Ludwig Leichhardt and his life. The second part asks students to plan their own expedition to find the remains of Leichhardt’s party. They will need to plan their expedition carefully and consider who to take, what to take and where to look.
This is an ideal task to do in pairs or could be enlarged on to A3 paper to create a project or display item for your classroom. Everything you need is in this file. Answers are included, where appropriate, to make marking easy.
Australia has an exciting history when it comes to exploration and this resource forms part of our Exploring Australia’s Explorers range which has been designed to provide you with all you need to teach the explorers while addressing the curriculum content for both knowledge and skills.
