This activity allows students to create a chronological timeline of the events that led to Australia’s Federation in a fun and hands-on activity that will truly engage your students in this dry topic
Let’s face it Federation can be a boring topic but it doesn’t have to be! This hands-on interactive notebook activity will help your students understand the significant events that led to Australia’s Federation.
Your students will love creating a timeline flip book by unjumbling the events and sorting them into chronological order. Once students have created their timeline they are able to complete the question sheet to demonstrate their understanding.
Timelines could also be enlarged to A3 size and presented in the classroom on coloured board or as part of a lap book presentation.
This activity supports the following Australian Curriculum content descriptors:
Key figures, events and ideas that led to Australia’s Federation and Constitution (ACHASSK134)
Sequence information about people’s lives, events, developments and phenomena using a variety of methods including timelines (ACHASSI125)
The contribution of individuals and groups to the development of Australian society since Federation (ACHASSK137)
I have found that students enjoy creating great displays to show their learning. By including these types of activities in our History lessons, they are more interactive and engaged. I hope to help both teachers and students enjoy this important topic!
