Description

Bring your Business and Economics lessons to life with hands-on activities that explore consumer rights and responsibilities.

We’ve all had experiences of buying the wrong item or finding our recent purchase is faulty but what do we do? What are our responsibilities and rights as consumers?

This resource will generate discussion and provide students with the opportunity to understand the role they play in making consumer choices and how they respond when their choices don’t work out.

By interacting with classmates and considering their own experiences as a consumer your students will :

  • Discuss and evaluate the strategies that can be used when making smart consumer and financial decisions and why they are responsible for these. Eg ensuring they find out as much information as possible, compare prices, retain receipts and warranty documentation.
  • Understand the responsibilities of business owners and why they must follow consumer standards and legal requirements.
  • Explore their options and who to respond should they have a problem with a purchase.

You know they learn better when they can make real-life connections. Well, the following activities do just that:

  • Buyer Beware – Consumer information page
  • What Do You Think? Flip book requiring students to respond to two consumer scenarios. This activity is suitable for both independent and pair/group activity.

And to make life easier for you we’ve included:

  • A detailed lesson plan.

Your business and economics lessons don’t have to be as boring as the stock market report!
